Technoset knows that as well as anyone. For more than 40 years, the Rugby-based company has specialised in creating highly complex, precision machined components on its multi-axis turning and milling centres, using both common and exotic metals. And thanks to VICIVISION UK, they were able to achieve this through high-precision non-contact shaft measurement machines. Offering manufacturers advanced solutions for turned components, with machines that deliver rapid measurement through dual video and light projection technology.
Technoset was established in 1978. We’re predominantly in the aerospace market. We also supply lasers, medical fibre optics but it’s all high-end, sophisticated products. Many of them are exotic materials, so we’re talking about aero engine parts that operate in challenging environments. We all strive for full perfection.
We then very recently purchased the VICI which is more of a laser scanning machine. The beauty of this machine was that you’re able to program the part very quickly. In a lot of cases, an operator can go to the machine, load his part into the machine, press the button, it scans the product and it auto-recognises that product and goes automatically to the program. So, it’s very for the operator. And then, within 30 seconds he has a report of maybe 30, 35 different features and characteristics that are either hopefully conforming, or need some attention to bring them back into the mean. Or he’s got a problem and we’ve got a red light which tells us that the product or a dimension is out of tolerance.
The VICI machine and the OGP machines are robust pieces of kit and they can be used in the production environment, which is where they really need to be because you’ve got to keep your spindles and you’ve got to keep production running. So that information back to source, is key.
The must important thing that we were looking for was reliability and repeatability. Thereafter, it is around service and support and I have to say that the service and support that we receive from OGP is very good. Always on the end of the phone if we’ve got a problem or a query or relating to maybe a program or a part that’s running through a program. They have helped us resolve issues externally with a customer through discussions with customers.
Customer’s expectation on time in full and quality are an absolute given but they want it at the lowest cost of course, which was a large factor in our decision making process to purchase the Vici machine, because of its speed, because of its accuracy and reliability.
We need this modern technology and we need modern technology to keep evolving. OGP do that very well and in this instance, the VICI was the right piece of kit for Technoset.
